Early Morning: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali at approximately 4:30 AM, after breakfast arrangements have been made. You will then travel approximately 116 km to Volcanoes National Park, a journey estimated to take around 2–3 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.
Upon arrival, you will proceed with the required registration and briefing. Park staff will explain the gorilla trekking guidelines and assign visitors to trekking groups.
Morning: Guided Mountain Gorilla Trekking
After the briefing, you will enter the forest accompanied by an authorized park ranger and begin searching for a mountain gorilla family. The duration of the trek varies depending on the gorillas’ location and movements, as well as the terrain and forest conditions.
The trek may take several hours. Once your group locates the gorillas, you will be allowed a regulated viewing period of up to one hour, subject to park rules.
