Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Semuliki National Park
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our company representative and your expert driver-guide. After a brief orientation, we will begin the scenic drive westward. Notably, we will enjoy a stopover in Mubende for refreshments before reaching the remote Semuliki National Park late in the evening for dinner and rest.
Day 2: Birding Haven and Sempaya Hot Springs
Following an early breakfast, we head to the park headquarters. Semuliki is a “birder’s haven,” home to over 400 species, including the White-tailed Hornbill and Capuchin Babbler. In the afternoon, we explore the famous Sempaya Hot Springs. You will witness the “Male” (Bitente) and “Female” (Nyansimbi) springs, where the water is hot enough to boil eggs—a fascinating natural phenomenon.
Day 3: To Kibale via the Ndali-Kasenda Crater Lakes
Next, we transfer toward Kibale National Park. After a relaxed lunch, we join the Isunga Cultural Community for an exploration of the Ndali-Kasenda craters. Specifically, we visit Lakes Nyabikere and Nyinabulitwa, enjoying stunning views and spotting diverse water birds.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk
Today is dedicated to our closest relatives. First, we head to the Kanyanchu Visitors Center for chimpanzee trekking. Once found, you will spend a magical hour observing them play and groom. In the evening, we take a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp, a sanctuary for 8 primate species and the iconic Great Blue Turaco.
Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park & Kazinga Channel
Afterward, a short 2-3 hour drive brings us to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The highlight of the day is a sunset boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Consequently, you will have front-row seats to view massive pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and thirsty elephants lining the banks.
Day 6: Kasenyi Game Drive & Salt Lake Katwe
At dawn, we embark on a game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. Keep your camera ready for Uganda Kobs, forest elephants, and the famous tree-climbing lions. In the afternoon, we visit Lake Katwe to learn the traditional art of salt mining and proceed to Lake Munyanyange to spot migratory flamingos (best seen between August and November).
Day 7: Southward to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Transitioning further south, we drive to the home of the giants: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This UNESCO site holds half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. We arrive in time for a relaxing evening at your lodge.
Day 8: The Gorilla Encounter & Batwa Culture
Finally, the day you’ve been waiting for. After a safety briefing, you will enter the forest to track a habituated gorilla family. Indeed, spending one hour with these gentle giants is a life-changing experience. Later, we immerse ourselves in the Batwa Cultural Experience, learning ancient forest survival skills and enjoying traditional songs.
Day 9: Mgahinga “Where Gold Meets Silver”
Moving on, we depart for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This park is unique as it hosts both Mountain Gorillas (Silver) and the rare Golden Monkeys (Gold). In the evening, we walk the Batwa Trail, visiting the sacred Ngarama Cave.
Day 10: Golden Monkey Trekking & Volcano Climbing
In the morning, we track the playful, endangered Golden Monkeys. Then, for the active adventurer, we begin a volcano hike. Mgahinga features three dormant volcanoes: Mt. Sabinyo (3,669m), Mt. Gahinga (3,474m), and Mt. Muhavura (4,127m). Reaching the peak of Sabinyo allows you to stand in Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo simultaneously!
Day 11: Transfer to Lake Mburo
Leaving the mountains behind, we drive to Lake Mburo National Park, with a lunch stop in the vibrant Mbarara City. By evening, we settle into our lodge overlooking the park’s rolling hills.
Day 12: Zebra Game Drive & African Finfoot Cruise
Today, we explore the only park in Western Uganda where you can see Impala, Eland, and Burchell’s Zebra. Furthermore, we search for the Rothschild Giraffes relocated here in 2015. In the evening, a boat cruise on Lake Mburo offers chances to see the elusive African Finfoot and the majestic Shoebill stork.
Day 13: The Equator Experience & Kampala
As we head back toward the capital, we stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe. Notably, this is the perfect spot for “two-hemisphere” photos and souvenir shopping. We reach Kampala in the late afternoon.
Day 14: Kampala City Highlights
Today, we explore the heartbeat of Uganda. Our tour includes the Uganda Museum, the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, and the vibrant local craft markets. Additionally, you will have the chance to taste fresh Ugandan fruits and street food like the famous “Rolex.”
