Safari overview: This safari explores Rwanda Gorillas and Dian Fossey’s legacy in conservation.
This tour will take you to the home of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas in volcanoes National Park in the Northern province of Rwanda. You will also hike to Dian Fossey’s graveyard – former karisoke research center where she stayed for over 20 years researching about the mountain gorillas, she was the first to introduce gorilla habituation in Rwanda and the Virunga region at large. This journey highlights the connection between Rwanda, Gorillas and Dian Fossey, offering a unique wildlife and conservation experience.

Day 1: Kigali international airport to Volcanoes National Park.
Our driver guide will welcome you to the land of a thousand hills and transfer you to volcanoes national Park. But if you reach at the airport early you will visit the sculpture in the city of Rwanda. Upon reaching the hotel/Lodge you will have your dinner and check in for an overnight. This first day gives you a chance to start your Rwanda Gorillas and Dian Fossey safari with excitement and anticipation.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes National Park
Enjoy your hot coffee in the natural forest at the lodge, the game park ranger will brief you about the dos and don’ts while trekking the apes. You will trek to the forest in search these great animals. Trekking takes 2-3 hours depending on the movement of the apes. It includes 1 – hour interaction with the gorillas and later return to the lodge for a hot lunch and relax. This day focuses on gorilla encounters, closely following the legacy of Dian Fossey within Rwanda’s volcanoes.

Day 3: Hiking to Dian Fossey graveyard
Have a leisurely breakfast and head for Bisoke hiking, where you will be passing through bamboo forests that gives a nice view. You will reach at the former karisoke research center where Dian Fossey was buried. You will also encounter other attractions like elephants, buffalos, and different bird species. You will trek back to your lodge for lunch and relax. Furthermore, this hike is an essential part of exploring Rwanda Gorillas and the impact of Dian Fossey’s conservation work.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali and city tour
After your breakfast you will be transferred to Kigali city. Depending on your flight schedule, you may visit the Rwanda genocide memorial center which was opened in 2004. The driver guide will later drop you at Kigali international Airport to catch up with your flight. This will make the end of your 4 days tour. In summary, your visit to Rwanda Gorillas and Dian Fossey sites concludes with a cultural tour and memorable experiences.
