The next stop will be Nyungwe National Park, which is home to 13 different species of primates. It is the last time that your eyes will see mountain gorillas in their native habitat – volcanoes National Park. Rwanda’s Kigali is where the journey begins and ends.

Detailed tour.

Day 1: Kigali to Akagera National Park

A happy greeting is provided by the driver guide at the designated pickup location. A briefing on Rwanda is given while a glass of juice is enjoyed. In addition, the road to the only savannah park in the country is taken. Undulating hills and scattered homesteads are admired during the 5-hour drive.

As a result, the lodge is reached late in the afternoon for lunch. Relaxation in the gardens is encouraged before a sound sleep. Accordingly, the comfort of the seat is maintained with a securely positioned seatbelt. The park is known to host a plethora of wildlife and the Big 5.

Day 2: Sunrise Game Drive and Lake Ihema Canoe Ride

An enjoyable 4-hour game drive is conducted in the early morning hours. To clarify, buffaloes, elephants, and giraffes are often brought by luck. The checklist is completed by various birds, primates, and reptiles. Undoubtedly, a bush breakfast is eaten after the wildlife viewing session.

The evening session is held at Lake Ihema for a boat ride. Specifically, an eye is kept out for hippos and crocodiles. Return to the lodge is achieved for dinner and a restful siesta. Clearly, the day is finished once all aquatic species are observed.

Day 3: Akagera National Park to Nyungwe National Park

A sumptuous breakfast is served before checking out of the lodge. Likewise, a journey to the habitat of the chimpanzees is commenced. Stunning scenery and scattered homesteads are watched along the way. To be sure, a pause is made at the Nyanza King’s Palace for lunch.

Traditional entertainment is enjoyed before continuing the journey to the park. Hence, arrival at the lodge is greeted with joy and refreshments. The park is recognized as the home of our closest living cousins. Indeed, chimpanzees are known to share over 98 percent of human DNA.

Day 4: Morning Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk Experience

A pre-trekking briefing is conducted by the ranger guide before dawn. Essentially, documentation is checked and trekking rules are informed to the group. The walk is found to take between one and six hours. Besides this, an additional hour is allotted for shooting pictures.

Baboons and colobus monkeys are also encountered during the adventure. Consequently, a canopy walk is performed among enormous tree branches after lunch. Spectacular scenery and monkeys are seen from the summits of the trees. Notably, this experience is a highlight of any Rwanda safari.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

The day is started with a drive to the park of the volcanoes. Coupled with this, stories are told by the driver guide during the turns. The 6-hour journey is characterized by dense vegetation and sporadic homesteads. Indeed, a pit stop for lunch and refreshments is made en route.

Arrival at the park is achieved in the evening for leisure. To point out, dinner is served before a sound sleep at the lodge. The landscape is defined by the impressive Virunga volcanic chain. Truly, the anticipation for the mountain gorillas is felt by all.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

A pre-tour briefing is conducted at the park headquarters after breakfast. In fact, participants are assigned to a specific gorilla family to track. The exercise is observed to take between one and six hours. Accordingly, a dominant silverback is seen protecting his family territory.

Rare plant species and birds are encountered in the jungle. Moreover, a cultural encounter is enjoyed at the end of the day. This satisfying treat is followed by dinner and a nap. As a consequence, memories of the gorilla trek are shared at the lodge.

Day 7: Departure via Kigali

Morning breakfast is delivered on time even on the final day. To be sure, a short guided walk is led through approved trails. Breathtaking scenery and unusual plants are taken in for about an hour. Subsequently, goodbye is said to the Volcanoes National Park.
