Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kampala to Kibale National Park

Upon arrival, you will be met by your Epic Uganda Vacation guide for a briefing on your 9-day adventure. Subsequently, we begin the drive to Kibale National Park. Along the way, you will enjoy the stunning scenery of tea plantations and the Rwenzori Mountain foothills. We stop in Fort Portal City for lunch before checking into your forest lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early breakfast, we head to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. Notably, Kibale is home to 13 primate species. Once your 1–4 hour trek begins, you will spend a magical hour with a habituated chimpanzee family. In the afternoon, we explore Bigodi Swamp, a sanctuary famous for the Great Blue Turaco and rare primates like the Red Colobus and Grey-cheeked Mangabey.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park & Kazinga Channel

Following checkout, a scenic 2–3 hour drive brings us to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After lunch at your lodge, we board an evening boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Indeed, this is the best way to see massive pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and elephants cooling off at the water’s edge.

Day 4: Morning Cruise & Sunset Game Drive

To start the day, we enjoy a morning boat cruise to catch the wildlife at its most active. Afterward, we return for lunch and relaxation. As the sun begins to set, we head to the Kasenyi Plains for a game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for lions, leopards, and herds of Cape buffalo roaming the open savannah.

Day 5: South to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Next, we transition to the southwestern highlands of the Kisoro District. This 6-hour journey leads us to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half the world’s mountain gorillas. Upon arrival, we check into the lodge for a quiet evening of preparation for tomorrow’s trek.

Day 6: The Gorilla Encounter & Batwa Culture

This is the centerpiece of your safari. After a safety briefing, you will enter the ancient forest to track the endangered mountain gorillas. While the trek can last up to 8 hours, the one hour spent with these gentle giants is life-changing. In the evening, we visit the Batwa Community to learn about their ancestral life in the forest through traditional dance and fire-making demonstrations.

Day 7: Mgahinga: “Where Gold Meets Silver”

Moving on, we drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park—Uganda’s smallest but most diverse primate park. In the afternoon, we embark on the Batwa Trail, where Twa guides share the “real history” of their people within the volcanic shadows of the Virunga Massif.

Day 8: Golden Monkey Trekking & Volcano Hiking

Today, we track the striking, fast-moving Golden Monkeys. Furthermore, for those with a spirit of adventure, the afternoon offers a hike up Mt. Sabinyo. Remarkably, reaching the summit places you in three countries—Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo—all at the same time!

Day 9: Return to Kampala/Entebbe

On our final day, we begin the journey back to Kampala. We stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for iconic photos and a picnic lunch. Finally, we proceed to Entebbe International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your 9-day primate adventure.
