Day 1: Arrival in Arusha, Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met by our professional safari representative. Following a warm welcome, you will be transferred to the lush outskirts of the city. Notably, you will spend your first night at the Arusha Coffee Lodge, nestled within one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations. Relax and enjoy a gourmet dinner as you prepare for the wilderness ahead.
Day 2: Fly to the Western Serengeti & Sabora Plains
After breakfast, we transfer you to Arusha Airport for your scheduled flight into the Serengeti. Specifically, you will soar over the Great Rift Valley’s Gregory Rift and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arriving in the Western Corridor, you will witness the massive wildebeest herds congregating in the Grumeti region. After lunch at Sasakwa Lodge, enjoy your first game drive en route to the 1920s-style Singita Sabora Tented Camp.
Day 3: The Heart of the Grumeti Reserve
Today is dedicated to exploring the Sabora Plains and the Grumeti River. Indeed, Sabora is a prime location during the early dry season, providing exclusive access to the northern banks where herds gather. Furthermore, your game viewing is conducted in custom-built 4×4 safari vehicles designed for maximum visibility. Overnight at Singita Sabora.
Day 4: Stalking Big Cats & The Great Migration
Spend a full day witnessing the sheer scale of the migration. In addition to game drives, you can opt for horseback safaris or guided nature walks, both of which are all-inclusive options at Sabora. This area is famous for its high concentration of lions and cheetahs following the herds.
Day 5: Transfer to the Northern Serengeti (Mara River)
Following breakfast, we take a short, scenic flight from the Sasakwa Airstrip to the Northern Serengeti. This move puts you at the “front” of the migration. Upon arrival, you will be perfectly positioned on the banks of the Mara River. After lunch at Olakira Camp, spend the afternoon sipping coffee while keeping a watchful eye on the riverbanks for the first signs of a crossing.
Day 6: Full Day on the Banks of the Mara River
Today, we focus entirely on the river. We explore both the northern and southern banks, waiting for the high-stakes moment when the wildebeest brave the crocodile-infested waters. Notably, the views stretching toward the Masai Mara plains in the north are spectacular. End your day with a classic African Sundowner as the sun sets over the Serengeti.
Day 7: Final Tanzanian River Watch
If you haven’t yet witnessed a crossing, today is your chance. We spend extended time at key crossing points where leopards and lions are frequently spotted in the rocky outcrops (kopjes) of the northern Serengeti. Consequently, we ensure you have ample time to capture the perfect photograph before we transition to Kenya.
Day 8: Cross-Border Flight to the Masai Mara, Kenya
Next, we board a flight to the Masai Mara via the Tarime and Migori border points. Upon arrival at the Ol Kiombo Airstrip, your guide from Rekero Camp will meet you. This camp is ideally situated at the confluence of the Mara and Talek Rivers. Spend the afternoon exploring the Paradise Plains and the Musiara Swamp, famous for their dense predator populations.
Day 9: Exploring the “Big Cat” Capital
Today, you will realize why the Masai Mara is so highly regarded. This region has minimal traffic and is teeming with lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. While the migration remains a focus, your guide will also help you track intense predator-prey interactions, which are abundant this time of year.
Day 10: Final Day in the Mara
Enjoy your last full day in this natural wonder. Whether you choose to track the “Topi Pride” of lions or spend more time at the river, the Mara never fails to deliver. Sip your final safari cocktails under the vast Kenyan sky.
Day 11: Departure to Nairobi
Following a final breakfast, your flight to Nairobi departs in the late morning. Arriving at Wilson Airport, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your onward flight home, marking the end of your Epic Uganda Vacation cross-border safari.
