Hiking Mount Karisimbi: Conquering Rwanda’s Highest Volcanic Peak

• Day One: The journey typically begins at the base of Mount Bisoke. Hikers trek for approximately seven hours through diverse vegetation zones, reaching a midway camp at an altitude of 3,700 meters.

• Day Two: After an early breakfast, you face the final challenge. This last stretch often involves navigating thick fog, muddy trails, and strong winds. Upon reaching the top, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the entire Volcanoes National Park before a six-hour descent back to the starting point.

A Night Under the Stars

Spending a night in the middle of a volcano is a bucket-list experience for hiking enthusiasts. While temperatures can drop low enough to turn water into ice, a warm campfire and heavy clothing turn the freezing atmosphere into a cozy setting for socializing.
