Detailed itinerary

Explore the diverse landscapes of the “Pearl of Africa” on this 6-day adventure. From the dense canopy of Kibale Forest to the vast savannahs of Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo, this safari is designed for those who want to see the best of Uganda’s wildlife in a condensed timeframe.

Day 1: Entebbe to the Primate Capital (Kibale)

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your Epic Uganda Vacation driver-guide. Following a brief orientation, we begin the journey westward toward Kibale National Park. Notably, the drive offers stunning views of rolling tea plantations and the majestic Rwenzori Mountain ranges. We will enjoy a traditional lunch in Fort Portal, Uganda’s tourism city, before checking into your forest lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk

After an early breakfast, we head to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. Indeed, Kibale is world-renowned for hosting 13 species of primates. Your trek will take 3–4 hours, culminating in a magical hour observing habituated chimpanzees as they feed and play. In the afternoon, we explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This community-led walk is a paradise for birders, offering chances to see the Great Blue Turaco, as well as rare primates like the L’Hoest’s monkey and Red Colobus.

Day 3: Savannah Landscapes & Queen Elizabeth National Park

Next, we transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the most popular destination in Uganda. Specifically, this park is famous for its diverse ecosystems and the rare tree-climbing lions of Ishasha. After checking in and enjoying lunch, we embark on an evening game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. Keep your camera ready for elephants, Cape buffaloes, and some of the park’s 600+ bird species, such as the African Skimmer and Martial Eagle.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

At dawn, we head back into the plains to catch the “early risers.” During this time, you have the best chance of spotting lions and leopards returning from their morning hunt. Following a relaxed lunch, we board a boat for a cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This natural waterway connects Lake George and Lake Edward and is home to one of the world’s highest concentrations of hippos and Nile crocodiles.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Mburo – The Home of Zebras

Moving on, we drive to Lake Mburo National Park. While it is Uganda’s smallest savannah park, it is the only place in the west where you can see massive herds of Impala and Burchell’s Zebra. After lunch, we head out for an evening game drive. Consequently, you will see zebras grazing alongside buffaloes and warthogs, with the beautiful acacia woodland providing a perfect backdrop for sunset photography.

Day 6: Guided Nature Walk & The Equator Experience

On our final day, we trade the safari vehicle for a guided nature walk. Walking through the park allows for a closer, more intimate view of giraffes, elands, and waterbucks. Finally, we begin our journey back to Kampala, stopping at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for iconic photos and a celebratory farewell lunch before your transfer to Entebbe International Airport.

Essential Safari Tips

  • Chimpanzee Permits: As of 2026, it is highly recommended to book permits at least 3 months in advance due to high demand in Kibale.

  • What to Wear: For the Bigodi walk and Chimp trek, ensure you have long trousers and sturdy hiking boots to protect against forest insects.

  • Photography: Early morning light in Queen Elizabeth is ideal for capturing the predators of the Kasenyi Plains.
