This 5 days safari will give you a great memory in Congo (commonly known as Congo, Kinshasa). You will visit Kahuzi-Biega National park where you will trek mountain gorillas, hike Mount Kahuzi and Mount Biega – the twin extinct volcanoes from which the park derives its name. The tour will start and end in Kigali, capital of Rwanda.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali city and transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo
On this day of your 5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking Safaris, your Safaris guide will meet you at the hotel in Kigali city and give you a short briefing on your upcoming safari. You will begin your journey to the Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the DRC which takes roughly 4hours. This safari will take you across to Western part of Rwanda, passing through Butare town, the Intellectual center of Rwanda. Here your Safaris driver guide will take you for a local meal at a Rwandan restaurant and if time permits, will take you for a short city tour of Butare’s cultural and historical sites, of which there are many.
After an enroute lunch, you will proceed on your journey to the border town of Cyangugu, pass through customs and immigration on both Congo and Rwandan sides. On the DRC side of the border, the town is named Bukavu. You will have dinner and overnight stay on your arrival at the accommodation facility.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking experience in Kahuzi-Biega National Park.
Wake up on your second day and have breakfast, after which your Safari driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters to report for your Gorilla Trekking. After the formalities have been taken care of; you will be assigned to a group of 8 people for each gorilla family to trek. You will be led by a park ranger to trek the forest in search for some of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. You are allowed an hour with these beautiful creatures and after trekking is complete, you will trek out of the forest. If time allows, you will visit the local people for the cultural experience in the nearby community. You will return to the lodge for overnight.

Day 3: Hiking Mount Kahuzi
After a delicious breakfast in the beautiful environment at the lodge, the driver guide will take you to the Park Headquarters to register for the Hiking of Mount Kahuzi with a well packed lunch. You will be assigned to a local guide who will take you up the roughly 4-hour climb depending on your speed to the summit of Mount Kahuzi, passing through Bamboo Forest and Sub-Alpine vegetation while on the way. Descending from Mount Kahuzi which may take about 3 hours to complete, at this time you will reunite with your Safaris driver guide who will return you to your accommodation. Dinner will be served at your accommodation.

Day 4: Hiking Mount Biega
After breakfast in a serene breeze of Congo, your driver guide will once again transfer you to the Park Headquarters, this moment to hike Mount Beiga. As the previous day, you will be assigned a Park Ranger who will lead the way to the summit of Mount Biega, entire trip up and down Mount Beiga takes around 6 hours on average, depending on your hiking skills and the weather conditions. Before nightfall, you will join with your driver guide at the base who will transfer you back to your accommodation facility in Bukavu for dinner.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali
After a relaxed breakfast, your Safari driver guide will transfer you back across the DRC/Rwanda border post and drive you back to Kigali international airport to meet your flight. Incase time allows, your guide may take you on Kigali city tour where you will visit the Genocide Memorial Center or some local shopping markets that you might be fascinated in to visit one of the local markets or craft workshops.

- The Gorilla Tracking included in this safari depends on the availability of gorilla trekking permits at the time of booking. These permits are strictly limited and sold out in advance, especially during peak seasons of Christmas and school holidays. We therefore strongly recommend booking early.
