After a hearty breakfast, you will embark on a journey to the Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch. Here, an armed ranger guide will lead you on a walking safari to track southern white rhinos. Since their extinction in the wild in the 1980s, Ziwa has successfully grown the population to over 35 individuals.

Following this unforgettable encounter, you will continue the drive to Murchison Falls National Park.
Day 3: Game Drive & Boat Cruise on the Nile

You will wake up very early for a morning game drive to spot nocturnal species and early risers before they retreat to their hideouts. Because Murchison Falls hosts four of the “Big Five,” you have an excellent chance of viewing lions, giraffes, elephants, and buffaloes.

In the afternoon, you will board a boat for a trip to the base of Murchison Falls. As the Nile plunges 43 meters into the river below, you will observe hippos, crocodiles, and various water birds. Finally, you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to the Primate Capital

After breakfast, you will begin the 5-to-7-hour drive to Kibale National Park.
Once you reach the Fort Portal region, you will visit a local community to learn about their daily lifestyle. During this encounter, you will even participate in the traditional process of coffee making.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Queen Elizabeth Park

Early this morning, you will drive to the Kanyanchu Headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing. The chimpanzee trekking experience typically lasts 2 to 5 hours and includes one hour of direct contact with these fascinating primates.

In addition to chimps, the forest supports grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, and beautiful bird species. Afterward, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, enjoying the changing scenery along the way.

Day 6: Kasenyi Plains & Kazinga Channel

After breakfast, you will undertake a game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. This area is famous for its large populations of Uganda Kobs, which in turn attract predators like lions and leopards.

In the afternoon, you will proceed to the Kazinga Channel for a 2-hour boat cruise. While on the water, you will enjoy wide views of Nile crocodiles and hippos quenching their thirst. Subsequently, you will engage in a short game drive along the channel track as you head back to the lodge.

Day 7: Ishasha’s Tree-Climbing Lions

Before departing for the south, you will explore the Ishasha Sector of the park. This woodland area is world-renowned for its tree-climbing lions, which often lie flat on fig tree branches to escape the mid-morning heat. After this rare wildlife encounter, you will continue the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the evening for relaxation.

Day 8: The Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, you will carry a packed lunch to the park headquarters for a briefing. Following this, you will begin your gorilla trail through the thick, verdant rainforest.

Hiking through this ancient terrain is a challenging yet rewarding experience. Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. This encounter is often described as the absolute highlight of any African safari.

Day 9: The Equator & Departure

Today, you will start your journey back toward Kampala. Along the way, you will make a stop at the Uganda Equator crossing in Kayabwe. Here, you can enjoy an amazing photo session and a delicious lunch before continuing to the airport.

Note: For a shorter return journey, you may also choose to fly out through Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, as it is closer to Bwindi.

It’s crucial to begin your gorilla tour by observing animals ranging freely in several national parks, such as lions, leopards, and more, before you experience the sound and sight of gorillas.

Begin from Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for the rhino trekking encounter before moving on to the national parks of Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest, Semuliki, and Queen Elizabeth. Trekking with gorillas and adaptation takes place in the national parks of the Bwindi and Mgahinga gorillas, after which you can unwind at Lake Bunyonyi. This activity list also includes birdwatching, boat tours, and game drives. Entebbe International is where this journey begins and concludes.

The lake’s western side is dominated by a grassy escarpment rising above a shoreline fringed with acacia forest and the closed canopy Rubanga Forest. To the north and east, grassy valley floors, made seasonally lush and soggy by rain, drain between undulating hills.

These seep through expanses of wetland into the lake.

These varied habitats support an impressive variety of wildlife including 68 mammal species.

These include some rarities.

Day 17: Visit Kasubi Tombs, Uganda Museum

After breakfast, we drive to Kasubi Tombs. This is globally recognized as a major Heritage site. It is where four of the former Kings of Buganda were buried.

It is a royal palace enclosure that was first built in 1881. Here there are huge traditional reed and bark cloth buildings of the Kabakas (Kings) of Buganda Kingdom.

The Kasubi Tombs, also known as the Ssekabaka’s Tombs, are the royal tombs where the four former Kabakas of Buganda are buried. This site is a masterpiece of human creativity both in its conception and execution.

It bears eloquent witness to the living cultural traditions of the Baganda. The spatial organization of the Kasubi Tombs represents the best example of a Buganda palace or architectural ensemble.

Built in the finest traditions of the Ganda architecture and palace design, it reflects technical achievements developed over many centuries. The Kasubi Tombs constitute a site embracing almost 30 ha of hillside within Kampala district. Most of the site is agricultural, farmed by traditional methods. At its core on the hilltop is the former palace of the Kabakas of Buganda, built in 1882 and converted into the royal burial ground in 1884. Four royal tombs now lie within the ‘’Muzibu Azaala Mpanga’’ the main building, which is circular and surmounted by a dome.

Kasubi Tombs is a major example of an architectural achievement in organic materials, principally wood, thatch, reed, wattle and daub. The site’s main significance lies, however, in its intangible values of belief, spirituality, continuity and identity.

Thereafter, we drive to the Uganda Museum. The Uganda Museum (founded in 1908) in Kampala has exhibits of traditional culture, archaeology, science, and natural history. It regularly presents performances of traditional music. It is a display of Uganda’s cultural heritage where one can see ethnological and natural-historical exhibitions. It is a vivid reminder of the country’s colorful past.

One of its most interesting features is the collection of traditional musical instruments, which one is free to play. The museum contains rich materials from Uganda and is a must see. The Uganda Society’s library is housed in one room of the Uganda National Museum. Started in the 1930’s by a group of scholars, the collection is comprised of approximately 3,000 volumes, maps, periodicals and photographs, all pertaining to African history and culture. It also contains documents on the turbulent political history of Uganda. In the period of 1971-1979, the Republic of Uganda was under the leadership of “Field Marshal” President Idi Amin Dada who wrecked the Ugandan economy almost beyond recovery. He expelled the Asians who were the backbone of the Ugandan economy.

This is the time when the Tourism industry in Uganda suffered a major stroke. Accommodation establishments were plundered and Uganda was officially pronounced a “politically unsafe place” hence not an ideal place for tourists. Despite this, the Ugandan economy was able to regain stability when the National Resistance Movement took over power in 1986 and the Tourism infrastructure was put back in place hence Uganda becoming a safe destination for tourists. Stay at Metropole Hotel Kampala.

Day 18: Namugongo Shrine

After an early breakfast, drive to the Namugongo Shrine. Namugongo is where 22 young men were burnt alive on the orders of king Mwanga for refusing to denounce their newly found faith in Christ. They were executed on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga II in 1886. On the visit of Pope Paul VI to Uganda in 1969, the victims were canonized Martyrs and since then the shrine has become an important site for Uganda Christians and tourists. The site has been host to three Popes (1969, 1993 and 2015), and thousands of other religious, political and civic celebrities. To this day, every 3rd of June also known as the Martyrs” Day, Catholics from both within and outside Uganda make a pilgrimage to Namugongo to remember these young heroes known as the Uganda Martyrs. There are two churches built at the site; one for the Anglicans and the other for the Catholics.
Transfer to the airport for evening departure.

Changes in the course of the journey, the duration of your tour, the number of travellers, as well as the choice of accommodation are subject to availability, although we always endeavour to stick as closely as possible to this programme. For most itineraries, we can offer luxury, mid-range or budget versions of this safari upon request.

Sometimes it is not possible to adhere to the travel plan as described in this itinerary, due to weather and road conditions, authority regulations, organisational requirements, etc. Occasionally, the planned route of the tour has to change according to the situation on the ground. We must therefore explicitly refuse liability for adherence to the journey plan.

By booking this safari, the client accepts Epic Uganda Vacations Terms and Conditions of business.
