Day 1: Pickup from Kigali – Transfer to Gisenyi

Day 2: Hike Active Volcano Mount Nyiragongo

Mount Nyiragongo hikes start from Kibati village, Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The hike isnt strenous but requires sturdy shoes as you step on loose volcanic rocks from the previous eruptions taking you crossing all vegetation zones as you go up. Don’t underestimate the hike, good physical shape if very necessary. We recommend a walking sticks at the briefing point and a porter carry your backpack. The view at the top is absolutely stunning in the night staring watching the glowing red lava.

Day 3: Descend the volcano

The descend is much easier than the hiking and your guide / drive will be waiting for you to drive you to Virunga national park or Goma depending on your accommodation choice.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Congo

Have a cup of coffee at your hotel and drive to Virunga park offices to find briefing orientation for mountain gorilla trekking in Virunga national park. You will be split into groups of 8 tourists and embark on your gorilla tour to meet your habituated gorilla family. Once your hour with the gorillas is done, meet your guide back at the tracking point. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno lodge / Bukima tented camp (luxury)

Day 5: Drive Back to Kigali – Departure

Wakeup at leisure today enjoying the beautiful hotel, have breakfast and later be ready to drive back via Goma to Gisenyi. Drive back to Kigali with a drop off at either your hotel or the airport.

Day 1: Transferred from Kigali to Bukima in Democratic Republic of Congo

This will take you approximately 4hours to reach Goma. Here you will have a stopover for an enroute lunch and refreshment. Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes national park

Wake up and have a morning breakfast and later transfer to the national park headquarters for briefing by the park ranger guides. You will be given the dos and don’ts while trekking the gorillas to ensure and peaceful experience. You will then trek into the jungle searching for the remaining endangered mountain gorilla family. Interaction with the gorillas will last for an hour which will seem as a second where you will be taking pictures. Later, which you trek back from the forest. You will have you your Dinner and overnight

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali

Safari overview: This 5 Days Congo Safari Holiday is designed to give you an unforgettable experience exploring the wonders of Congo’s landscapes and wildlife.

This 5 days safari will give you a great memory in Congo (commonly known as Congo, Kinshasa). You will visit Kahuzi-Biega National park, embarking on what could be described as a classic 5 Days Congo Safari Holiday. Here you will trek mountain gorillas, hike Mount Kahuzi and Mount Biega – the twin extinct volcanoes from which the park derives its name. The tour will start and end in Kigali, capital of Rwanda.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali city and transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo

On this day of your 5 Days Congo Gorilla Trekking Safaris, your Safaris guide will meet you at the hotel in Kigali city and give you a short briefing on your upcoming safari. You will begin your journey to the Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the DRC which takes roughly 4hours. This safari will take you across to Western part of Rwanda, passing through Butare town, the Intellectual center of Rwanda.  Here your Safaris driver guide will take you for a local meal at a Rwandan restaurant and if time permits, will take you for a short city tour of Butare’s cultural and historical sites, of which there are many. As part of the 5 Days Congo Safari Holiday itinerary, this introduction is key.

After an enroute lunch, you will proceed on your journey to the border town of Cyangugu, pass through customs and immigration on both Congo and Rwandan sides.  On the DRC side of the border, the town is named Bukavu. You will have dinner and overnight stay on your arrival at the accommodation facility.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking experience in Kahuzi-Biega National Park.

Wake up on your second day and have breakfast, after which your Safari driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters to report for your Gorilla Trekking.  After the formalities have been taken care of; you will be assigned to a group of 8 people for each gorilla family to trek. You will be led by a park ranger to trek the forest in search for some of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world. You are allowed an hour with these beautiful creatures and after trekking is complete, you will trek out of the forest. If time allows, you will visit the local people for the cultural experience in the nearby community. You will return to the lodge for overnight. Day 3:  Hiking Mount Kahuzi

After a delicious breakfast in the beautiful environment at the lodge, the driver guide will take you to the Park Headquarters to register for the Hiking of Mount Kahuzi with a well packed lunch. You will be assigned to a local guide who will take you up the roughly 4-hour climb depending on your speed to the summit of Mount Kahuzi. While on the way, you will pass through Bamboo Forest and Sub-Alpine vegetation. Descending from Mount Kahuzi, which may take about 3 hours to complete, you will reunite with your Safaris driver guide at this time. Afterwards, your guide will return you to your accommodation. Day 4: Hiking Mount Biega

The entire trip up and down Mount Beiga takes around 6 hours on average, depending on your hiking skills and the weather conditions. Before nightfall, you will join with your driver guide at the base. He will transfer you back to your accommodation facility in Bukavu for dinner. Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali

This tour will take you to Mt Nyiragongo volcano which is one of the exciting hikes in Congo, Nyiragongo is one of the few active volcanos of Virunga ranges. It hosts the world’s biggest Lava Lake hence being one of the interesting Mountain to climb in Congo. Day 1: Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Lake Kivu Gisenyi and Boat ride in the afternoon.

Day 2: Nyiragongo hike experience

On this tour day, you will have breakfast early morning at the accommodation facility you spent a night. Your guide will take you to Kibati patrol post the briefing which is the hiking departure point and this takes roughly 30 minutes from Goma. This hiking activity normally starts at 10:00hours and will take roughly 4-6hours depending on the speed, and strength of the participants in order to reach the top of the volcano. You will then enjoy the beautiful views of the summit. Later, you will have dinner and stay overnight at the Summit shelter Camp.

Day 3: Descend the Mountain and transfer back to Kigali.

In the morning after your breakfast, you will descend back from the mount Nyiragongo and continue to the border to crossover again to Rwanda. You will continue to Kigali where the driver guide will drop you at the Airport for your departure hence making it the end of the tour.

You will spend approximately 1-4hours depending on where these primates are situated and your speed for hiking.
